DISCOGRAPHY

Lagwagon has made 5 full albums since they started out in 1990. All of these were released on Fat Wreck Chords. Their names are Duh (1992), Trashed (1994), Hoss (1995), Double Plaidinum (1997) and Let's Talk About Feelings (1998). They also did some songs on compilations, such as Physical Fatness from Fat Wreck Chords, but I won't list those unreleased songs here.

The Duh album, which started the Lagwagon-craze, is still one of the best. Great music, and some serious lyrics, that actually get you thinking. It was only the second album to be recorded and produced by Fat Wreck Chords, and thus it sometimes sounds less professional, and perfect. But real punkfans don't mind such small imperfections, and just play the album loud on the stereo, and then you won't even notice them. My favorite on this album is Bury the Hatchet. It contains 2 coversongs, but the typical Lagwagon sound formed by singer Joey Cape is set.

Their second effort in beating NoFX in the melodic punk scene, is called Trashed, and was released in 1994. This album shows that Lagwagon is not just a flash in the pan. Expanding on Duh, still having great music and lyrics, of which Know it All is probably the best example. My personal favorite is Island of Shame, which has some strong and fast riffs. No imperfections anymore on this album, it sounds like a dream.

The third album on Fat Wreck Chrods is called Hoss. This is still many people's favorite album. The leadsinger, Joey, said that "Whereas our earlier stuff was more straight forward hardcore, the new material has more dynamics, textures, and a lot more melody. We had matured quite a bit since writing the last album." And right he is. It starts silently with some bass-humming and then the party breaks lose when Joey starts Kids don't like to Share. My personal favorite on this album is Violins. It's fast and has great lyrics and superb riffs. This album is definitely the best Lagwagon album of the three released, although Double Plaidinum is going to change that.

Their definitely best album, is Double Plaidinum. The fourth release in Lagwagon history, is probably their most ambitious one. The songs silently fade over into each other, so it's like you're listening to just one long song. All the songs on this record are brilliantly written, because you don't notice them being fast. When I listen to the album, it's like all the songs are slow and yet there are some pretty fast songs among the 12 on the cd. Because the songs blend over, it makes you think this cd is of short duration, but it's still half an hour pure Lagwagon sound. Favorite: Making Friends.

And finally, a year in the making, Let's Talk About Feelings arrives in 1998. This is another solid album, just like Double Plaidinum. Songs are pasted together with some moviefragments, and they use those fragments in songs too, like in Gun in your hand. Too bad it's such a short album. My favorite here is hard to pick, because all songs are good. I especially like Train, May 16 and Change Despair. May 16 is also available on Life in the Fat Lane, the latest compilation from Fat Wreck Chords. All in all, another typical Lagwagon album, that plays from After you my friend till Owen Meaney. Definitely recommended.

In the year 2000 Lagwagon thought it would be "dumb" to put a compilation together called Let's Talk About Leftovers featuring all the songs they put on other compilations, out-takes from their records, and some really "terrible" demos. Included on this album is the 7" A Feedback of Truckstop Poetry, at least the songs on that 7" record. Also included are some unreleased live tracks from the Duh and Trashed album, and even a cover from Blind Melon's No Rain, although Lagwagon slightly adjusted the lyrics to it. A great album featuring at least 25 songs (live material not included) out on Joey Cape's own My Records.
